How and Why Dr. Kar Mun Chose Her Water Laser

mom kissing babyAt Kiddies Infant Care, our treatment for infant tongue-tie varies to the traditional method used in a frenotomy. While in the past, practitioners have made the required incision with scissors, we use gentle laser therapy (with Waterlase Laser Dentistry™) on the connective tissue to free the tongue from the floor of the mouth.

The Benefits of Laser Frenotomy

Through choosing laser, instead of scissors, we offer may benefits to your baby, including:

  • Minimally invasive surgery, causing less pain and tissue trauma
  • More precision
  • Short treatment time of just a few minutes
  • Little to no bleeding
  • Entire removal of problematic tissue
  • Reduction of the risk of infection
  • Quick healing and recovery time

How Does Laser Surgery Work?

Our laser combines water, air, and laser energy for safe use on human tissue in the mouth. It is a precise treatment, no stitches are required. The laser seals blood vessels and minimise bleeding during the procedure.

Snipping with scissors or instruments, on the other hand, does not seal blood vessels, meaning hemostasis takes longer to achieve.

Additionally, when scissors are used for snipping lip and tongue ties, they crush the cells as they cut. This causes a greater likelihood of the tissue re-attaching in some individuals.
