Referrals

We feel honoured to receive many referrals at our practice. Area dentists trust us to provide exceptional care to our young patients. In fact, we have over 600 referring dentists to our practices. These are all outstanding general dentists. We have a great rapport with them because we know what we need to do to help the patients the best and we communicate that to the general dentists.

For every patient that comes in that’s being referred, communication will go straight back to their general dentist after the patient has been seen. We also send the referring dentist communication after we’ve done the treatment. This team approach allows everybody to know what’s going on and why we’ve decided to take a specific strategy.

Why We Do a Consult First

Even if you know your child needs a filling, we do a consult first. The consult is typically a 20-minute conversation with the mum. This approach is beneficial because that way, the child won’t have to sit through the consultation, with the potential of anxiety building.

Establishing Rapport With Your Child

We take great care to develop a rapport with every child who sees us. We want them to be happy in our environment. Kids then get used to our office. They also realise our practice is a happy place. We have a PlayStation and other fun activities to keep them occupied before their appointments!

Taking Images of Your Child’s Teeth

Any child that’s referred by a specialist will get what we call a full jaw X-ray done because that will look at the teeth that are developing underneath. There might be a baby tooth there, but do you know if the adult tooth is underneath or not? Because sometimes there’s no adult tooth, that baby tooth is the only tooth that they’re ever going to have. So you do have to look at what’s coming in and what’s not.

Providing That Second Opinion

Sometimes a child may have seen another dentist and the parent wants to get an opinion or clarify if what’s getting done somewhere else is okay. Or, a parent may have found a hole and they’re very worried. Or, they might look at our website, which discusses thumb sucking, and may wonder if their child’s thumb-sucking habit is causing tooth problems.
